Kenyan athlete Korir wins 800m at the Tokyo Olympics

Kenyan runner Emmanuel Korir won first place in the 800m at the Olympics. He covered the distance in 1 minute 45.06 seconds. Kenyan compatriot Ferguson Rotich was second (1.45.23), with Pole Patrick Dobek third (1.45.39).

In addition to two silver medals and two bronze medals, this was Kenya’s first victory at Olympic Games history

Biography of Emmanuel Korir

Kenya is where he was born and grew up until 2005, when he continued his higher education at Moi University in Eldoret. He has been competing since 2006.

Olympic results

Arman Duplantis of Sweden won the Olympic gold in the pole vault, silver went to Chris Nielsen and bronze was taken by Thiago Braz da Silva of Brazil.

Anita Wlodarczyk of Poland claimed gold in the hammer throw, with Wang Zheng taking silver and Malwina Kopron claiming bronze. American Ating Moo came first in the 800-metre race, Keeley Hodgkinson second and Ravyn Rogers earning third place.

In the 200m race Elaine Thompson-Hera from Jamaica won, with Christine Mboma of Namibia in second place and Gabrielle Thomas of the USA coming third. There was also a qualifying round for men’s 200m event as well as semifinal race in case anyone gets eliminated before then. World champion Sergey Shubenkov failed to start in 110m hurdles due to an injury.
