Results Dalcha Lungiambula vs. Marcus Perez

One of the UFC Fight Island 8 preliminary card events will be Dalcha Lungiambula vs. Marcus Perez in the middleweight division. The South African Lungiambula has not been in the Octagon for over a year after a knockout loss to Magomed Ankalaev. And Brazilian Perez is on the streak of two losses in a row, but without a big break. Bookmakers have a slight preference for Lungiambula.

Dalcha Lungiambula

Dalcha Lungiambula is a UFC fighter, but he’s had quite an inconsistent run in the company. Since his debut loss to Magomed Ankalaev in November 2019, he has not competed and was then knocked out by Ankalaev once again in March 2020.

Dalcha Lungiambula, despite his lack of a grounding in any martial arts and below-average height for a fighter, is an incredibly powerful puncher. He previously competed at light heavyweight; though he cannot grapple well against elite opponents by himself.

Marcus Perez

The 30-year-old Brazilian Perez began his pro career in 2013 and came to the UFC with a perfect 10-0 record. But he has had negative win-loss balance so far in the UFC, winning just twice in six bouts (to Wellington Thurman by decision and Dricus du Plessis by TKO).

Markus is still not a high-ranked UFC fighter and has never managed to break into the top ten. However, one thing in his favor is that he’s six years younger than Dalcha Lungiambula and four years lighter. He also manages to make his opponents work for points, which can be an advantage in long fights when people have less energy left. Punters are leaning towards Markus but payouts lean slightly more towards Dalcha because of their own recent losses.

Fitness of the fighters

The South African fighter is five years older than his opponent, which may have an effect on the outcome. Donga Lungiambula is returning after one year of inactivity, which may also negatively affect both physicality and health.

Brendan’s height difference is greater than his arm span. Marc is able to maintain a dominant position when they grapple, and has an advantage in striking from distance as well.

Brazilian Marcus Perez will be fighting against fellow South African Dalcha Lungiambula in the welterweight division. Despite generally being favored to win, this is undoubtedly harder on the Brazilian as he used to fight at middleweight and not training properly for this weight class can have a negative effect on one’s form.

Summary of the fight

Dalcha Lungiambula, who has been off from UFC fighting for over a year, will match up against Marcus Perez in the middleweight division. Bookmakers favor lungiambula as Lungiambula is an aggressive striker and has a very high chance of winning by knockout. However, many have criticized Vicente de Lima’s fight strategy because he is not diverse with his techniques and relies too heavily on Wing Chun. In the end, Dalcha lost to Marcus Perez by unanimous decision.
