Ukraine vs England Euro 2020 Prediction

England have qualified for the World Cup semi-finals in Russia, having made it to the last four of this year’s tournament under Gareth Southgate before losing to Croatia. However, they lost 2-0 at the same stage of next year’s Uefa Nations League after a Dutch team beat them earlier in September.

But this year feels different. Coming off an unlikely victory against Germany in the knockout stage of a tournament, England has not yet run into any countries that are exceedingly difficult to beat. The next match will be against Ukraine who many people thought would cause troubles before the European Championship began.

Andriy Shevchenko’s men have already competed against the Dutch in the group stages and they showed determination to beat Sweden 2-1 in extra time. In spite of their home advantage, England can’t underestimate Ukraine. This is their first European Championships quarter final match ever.

Ukraine vs England 2020: story

Ukraine will likely be unfazed by their first quarterfinal appearance at the European Championship, despite earlier Group Stage losses to Netherlands and Austria. After a victory over Sweden in the Round of 16, Ukraine is riding high following Artem Dovbyk’s strike that proved “we can accomplish our goals.”

England have held four straight clean sheets and they scored three goals against Germany in the last 16. Raheem Sterling scored a goal, Harry Kane opened his account at EURO 2020, and England will return to Wembley if they progress further into the tournament.

As a third-placed team that emerged from Group C, Ukraine had a successful campaign at the tournament thanks to narrow losses against North Macedonia, Austria, and The Netherlands.

Manchester City player Oleksandr Zinchenko scored in the 27th minute, but Sweden equalized with a deflected effort before the halftime whistle.

Serhiy Sydorchuk hit the post in the second period for Ukraine before Sweden’s Forsberg hit shots off the crossbar and outside of the post.

Sweden’s Marcus Danielson was sent off in extra time and substitute Artem Dovbyk scored the winning header in the final minute of added time.

Shevchenko stated: “Both teams played very well. It was an interesting match. Neither side wanted to lose, so we got this drama at the end.”

It is difficult to criticize the commitment of Ukrainians while West Ham’s Andriy Yarmolenko and Roman Yaremchuk of Gent have been playing well in attack.

They shouldn’t have the ability to test the Three Lions, though, and we like 11/2 for England to oblige 2-0 from the Ukraine vs England odds.

Ukraine Team News

Ukraine striker Artem Besedin will be out with a knee injury for the 2022 World Cup, after he was victim to a horror challenge by Sweden’s Marcus Danielson in their quarter-final.

Oleksandr Zubkov, reported to have recovered from a calf injury, could take his place in the team selection process this week. Meanwhile Denys Popov’s muscle injury has forced him to withdraw from consideration.

Dovbyk’s heroics may not be enough to earn him a start over Andriy Yarmolenko, Roman Yaremchuk and Arsenal-linked player Dovbyk was cautioned in the last-16 win.

Ukraine possible starting lineup:

Bushchan; Zabarnyi, Kryvtsov, Matvienko; Karavaev, Sydorchuk, Shaparenko, Stepanenko, Zinchenko; Yarmolenko, Yaremchuk

Injured: Artem Besedin, Denys Popov

Doubtful: Andriy Yarmolenko, Oleksandr Zubkov

England performed creditably in representing their group during Euro 2016, topping the Group D table after defeating Croatia 1-0 and racking up a 1-0 victory against Scotland on either side of a goalless tie with the Czech Republic.

Early exchanges between Germany and England were predictably close. Raheem Sterling tested Manuel Neuer with a long-range shot, while Jordan Pickford denied Timo Werner.

The introduction of Jack Grealish for the second half helped to open things up a little, and Luke Shaw fed him who cross for Daniel Sterling to break the deadlock.

Harry Kane scored after receiving a great pass from Jack Grealish, and Germany did not have many chances to equalise the game.

That result gave us 5/1 odds on Draw for the HT at England.

Tottenham striker Kane told the BBC: “It’s something we’ll never forget. It was a great performance, another clean sheet, just the perfect afternoon.”

“So, we’ll enjoy this one but we know we’ve got another big one on Saturday now. We’re keeping clean sheets and we’re building confidence off that.”

“This will give us more self-belief going forward but we’ve got to make sure we get it right on Saturday now.”

“We can’t switch off. We obviously want to go all the way and we’ll have a tough game coming up.”

Kane and Sterling will be dominating the odds for scoring goals at this year’s World Cup, but we are going to take a gamble on Harry Maguire at 17/2 for proving anyone wrong in Ukraine vs England.

The Manchester United defender put in a top performance at the back when playing against Germany and this is the kind of game where he will likely play well on set-pieces.

Maguire appears to be a threat in the air when he shoots for any of his international goals against Sweden, Republic of Ireland and Poland.

England Team News

England duo Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell have now completed their self-isolation period after being present for a coronavirus scare. The latter is unlikely to challenge Luke Shaw for the left back spot in the team considering Shaw’s current form.

Southgate’s shift to a back three might have been prompted by the German game, so it is possible that we will see him use this formation again against Ireland. This could leave Grealish with less playing time, but Mount could replace Bukayo Saka and play next to Sterling and Kane instead.

Declan Rice and Kalvin Phillips both picked up bookings Sunday against Germany, so Jordan Henderson is a possible player to play in the XI. Changes will be kept at a minimum if possible because Southgate does not want to change too much for this match.

England possible starting lineup:

Pickford; Walker, Stones, Maguire; Trippier, Rice, Henderson, Shaw; Mount, Kane, Sterling

Betting odds and tips for Ukraine vs England

Betting odds and tips

  • England to reach semi-final: 1/7
  • Ukraine to reach semi-final: 7/2

Historically, England is known to play games with low scores. This will likely be beneficial when they are playing against this team because it will give them a better chance at victory.

Initial betting recommendations were England to win to nil, but the odds are not good enough for me.

Paddy Power lists England at odds of 2/5 to win the match, but by multiplying this probability by 4/5, I can determine that Ukraine not scoring is a 6/4 chance. This finding tells me there isn’t enough value in backing 11-10 odds for England to win 1-0.

Andriy Yarmolenko and Oleksandr Zinchenko, who are just two examples of talented individuals among Ukraine’s ranks, show that the team can score a goal seemingly out of nowhere.

ENGLAND TO WIN AND UNDER 3.5 GOALS seems to be the most promising bet, though even this isn’t likely to produce a team score contest.

By multiplying England’s win odds (2:5) to the price of both bets, we calculate that a wager on the event offers 8/11 odds.

This bracket also provides a backup for the eventuality that Ukraine manages to end England’s current winning streak, as well as covering the possibility that England adopts more aggressive tactics and wins with more score than they usually do at this event.

However, backing ENGLAND TO WIN AND UNDER 2.5 GOALS is also worth considering because the combined prices come out at about 7/4 and 21/10 respectively.

Ukraine vs England odds

  • Ukraine are 15/2 to win on Saturday, with England 2/5 and the draw priced at 10/3
  • Ukraine 8/1 | Draw 7/2 | England 4/11

Ukraine vs England: Predictions

England entered Euro 2020 with high expectations as the final is to be held at Wembley Stadium – just the third time a major tournament has had its showpiece in London. England has proven to be a strong team and appeared in an interesting group alongside Croatia, Scotland, and Czech Republic.Their round robin group stage results included a victory over Croatia and Czech Republic, for zero goals conceded. That earned them a rematch with Germany in the quarter finals at Wembley, an opponent they hadn’t beaten since 1966. Though the game was tough, England won it 2-0 to advance further into this tournament.

Ukraine wants to put an end to England’s dream of advancing in the World Cup and move on with their own. Ukraine are in a very interesting bracket, facing North Macedonia, Austria and Netherlands. They kicked off this round by losing 3-2 against the latter. Ukraine made their way to the knock-out rounds of Euro 2016 after finishing second in Group C. Andriy Shevchenko’s team lost its final group game to Austria 1-0, but qualified as one of the best third place teams because it beat North Macedonia 2-1 and Sweden 2-1 (in extra time) in other games

Ukraine vs England Predicted XI

Ukraine predicted XI (3-5-2): Georgi Bushchan, Illia Zabarnyi, Serhii Kryvtsov, Mykola Matvienko, Oleksandr Karavaev, Mykola Shaparenko, Taras Stepanenko, Serhiy Sydorchuk, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Artem Dovbyk, Roman Yaremchuk

England predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Jordan Pickford, Kyle Walker, John Stones, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, Kalvin Phillips, Jordan Henderson, Mason Mount, Raheem Sterling, Harry Kane, Jack Grealish

Ukraine vs England Head-to-Head

When faced with a tough group that included Austria, the Netherlands and North Macedonia, Ukraine was not up to the challenge.

Shevchenko’s team faced a couple of losses, but still made the knockout stages as one of the tournament’s four third-best teams.

Few fans had put any hope on Ukraine after they opened the game with a score of 1-1. With Sweden reduced to 10 men, however, the team scored in 121st minute to impel them into the quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, while supporters were frustrated with their country’s lack of offense in the group stage (despite taking 2 wins and a tie), they remained hopeful for England’s future performance.

On the other hand, Tuesday’s win over Germany was more impressive. The Three Lions shut down 2014 World Cup winners and came out on top after two goals from Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane.

Southgate has to make sure his team does not get caught up in the hype when Ukraine is an opponent. The team may be low on profile, but they can no less threaten England just because of that.

Ukraine may have a difficult match against England as Ukraine’s record with English teams has not been very good.

They have won one international match against England, a 2009 World Cup qualifier. They have lost four of the seven matches they’ve played against them and once in an international competition at Euro 2012.

The last time these two teams faced off was in a 2014 world cup qualifier. They drew, 0 to 0.

Ukraine vs England Tip 1: Win-to-Nil

England are yet to concede in any of their Euro 2020 games and will be confident they can keep Ukraine out during the quarterfinals. Ukraine has looked decent but have struggled to score, failing against Austria in its final game with no goals. England have only conceded one goal so far in these matches and haven’t lost since England’s last six international matches

Ukraine vs England Tip 2: Under 2.5 Goals

Under 2.5 goals has been the most frequent result in matches between England and Ukraine, with a total of two scores on three occasions. Three degrees under 2.5 goals are common for both teams and, historically speaking, the pattern is likely to continue after their last meeting produced an uneventful game.

Ukraine vs England Tip 3: 1-0 England

England’s last win against Ukraine was by 1 – 0. England is expected to keep the score close and capture another victory on Saturday. Ukraine lost to Austria, 1-0 in their last Euro 2020 game and England have won four of the six Euro 2020 games played so far by the same score. England has not conceded any goals through their first four games in the tournament, and they are currently tied atop of Group F with a perfect 4-0 win record.

England vs Ukraine : Match Stats

As England’s unquestionable hero in Euro 2020 so far, Raheem Sterling has scored three of their four goals including two winners and the opener against Germany. He is just the fourth Englishman to net at least three goals in a single European Championship, and has now netted 15 goals in his past 20 international appearances.

But England’s performance so far in this tournament has been mainly because of their defence; they are the only team to have conceded no goals since round four and allowed just eight shots on target.

England vs Ukraine 2020: Corner Stats

Ukraine’s defense has had to deal with 25 corner kicks at Euro 2020, while Shevchenko’s team have only won 12 for themselves. England’s corners tallies are more evenly distributed, with the Three Lions winning 16 and conceding 13.

Ukraine vs England: Cards Stats

England have only been shown one yellow card in group stage games, while team Germany has been given three. Ukraine is the same with four yellow cards, but Sweden’s player Marcus Danielson was sent off with a red card last game.

Ukraine vs England Evro 2020: Conclusion

We learned our lesson after backing Germany to win by a wide margin against England at the Euros in the last-16 stage. Ukraine is deploying a similar strategy in their encounter with England, so it might be another good day for Three Lions fans.

While Shevchenko’s team deserves recognition for making it to the quarterfinals, they are fortunate that most of their opponents have a lower rank than them. England is expected to beat Russia in this round and make it onto the finals at Wembley Stadium.
